Annual Farewell Dinner 2011 by Sam Tet Brass Band, held on 28th October 2011 at the Royal Golf Club dine, host Sharizal started the night with speeches by honoured guests whom were the headmaster, Mr Lee, followed by head teacher advisor, Pn Ellis, carried on by our coach, Mr Yeap, and lastly the newly posed Band Leader, Choong Jiunn Shyong. Also present were Head of Co-curricular Activities, Head of Afternoob Session and few more teacher advisors. During the speeches by the guests, the band was praised by all of them, for the hardwork they put into the band. The band also received critiques not for the sake of right and wrong but for the sake of improvement. The feast started after the speeches. After the feast was the souveniers and certificate giving ceremony,

i like this band

The formation is coming , its just around the corner .for all the member especially the committee , we are freaking out ,most of us are giving never less than 100 % during practise ,simply because we was tired of losing to others ,winning was great and it feels great too ,but ,first we need to win ourselves deep down ‘inside’ ,struggling to overcome the fear while facing the crowd ,struggling to conquer the ‘This is Impossible’ concept among the leaders and the followers .In a band ,everything is made possible simply because we are a band and we are all together in whatever we do .Together , we can rock the Sam Tet field or even bring down the stadium .In the movie ‘Swing Girls’ there is saying : “ playing the same notation is easy ,but hitting the same groove is hard ! ” . For that reason, I can bet that any team that capable of doing that ,will do well in anything .
STBB , was indeed the most wonderful miracle that happened on me .I remember I was just standard 1 when I first saw a band competition ,right at that very night ,I remembered I was holding a broom stick and pretended to be the drum major of a band .Now ,I am actually in it .The definition of ‘nice music had changed completely ever since I entered this band .I won’t say STBB is the best ,but it certainly not the worst too . I enjoyed the moment where we performed together on the stage as well as on the field under the hot sun ,the music that sweats from these moment are certainly the BEST .For those people that are not involve in a band ,you won’t understand the joy it contained when you produced music together with your friends .
Marching band requires determination ,dedication ,discipline ,passion ,friendship ,endurance ,stamina ,and last but not least ,music skill and a little bit of talent .We can tell how much you want it based on the show you put on ,some band really strive to be the best in every aspect ,every single detail is push to its limits ! Comparison brings about improvement ,but it’s also a source of stress ,for Sam Tet Brass Band ,we are forgetting the meaning of entering the band .For many years ,our goal is just to win the state competition and proceed to the national level .Winning is not a goal ,its an EFFECT ! We practised to make sure that our formation is clean ,tidy and neat , so that our music has dynamic and melody .When personal satisfaction is met ,winning will follows .
“you take the risk ,you pay the price ! “
For the past few years ,STBB had chosen to perform some fast pace song and fast pace formation ,as a result ,we pay the price for taking the risk ...for example ,2007 we performed summertime and pretty fly and ,we are were the champion of the year ... as for 2008 ,we performed Aquarius and night in white satin ,but we among the bottoms .This year ,we are taking another risk again ,because this is our style and we will stick to it !
Joining the band lets you make a whole bunch of new friends ,you begin in no where until you ended up making them as your best friends ,they support everything you do ,for example ...After some years ,when you suddenly bumped into them at a coffee shop or maybe a shopping complex ,all you both will be chatting about the whole afternoon or even late into night will be the life you had gone thorough with him many years ago in the band .After the secondary school ,I really wondered whether I can still marched with these people on the field ,playing the same old songs ,marching the same old steps ...

Graduation Day

~ADIOS~
amigo

4.11.2008

Rehearsal for our graduation day performance turned out quite well,
better than I’d expected despite the number of newbies joining us today……
The first thing that came across my mind was
“Hey, we actually have a bunch of great kids with us this year! “
Which is a good thing =)

After hours and hours of painstaking trials,
We finally came up with an ingeniously surprising show.
Partially similar to the previous year except for the theme…
Which is to entertain not just the audience but more importantly ourselves... ...extraordinary…lol
Guidelines and rules were side-lined,
While everyone played thoroughly to their heart’s content…

The seniors were the ones who ought to be thanked for putting in 101% of their noble effort in knitting the show together…
Kudos to those who worked endlessly for this production.

The show was planned in such a way,
So energetic that even at the end of the day everyone demanded for more,
But the seniors really had to call it a day out due to fatigue…
No doubt everyone was filled to the brim with enthusiasm,
Eagerly looking forward to the next day…………

SHOWTIME !!!

Our long-anticipated show began with a sentimental number “ 明天会更好 ”
We chose this song to signify the end of their ( form 5’s & upper 6’s ) secondary education days…
It was truly an emotional moment for all, with emotions and sombreness hanging in the air.
We bid them a final farewell before ending the song with a satisfactory round of applause…
Clap…clap…

“ 1 … 2 … 1 2 3 4 “ shouted out Chuah Wui Cuan ( conductor )
And we kicked off the second phase of the show, literally.
An amusing “ Sock Hop Tonight “ it is…
From which our sobriety we hopped into a whole new jazzy tune.
The saxophonists basically hogged the entire show and trust me, they were good…well…better than just good, they were stupendous!!
They really knew how to get their groove going and the audience responded accordingly…
They even tried to outdo each other to snatch the limelight and created quite a scene up there…
“ AbsuRd “ became our middle name just for that instance as we all went wild like lunatics…

And then into the second section of the music where Chew Kean Heng, our soloist took the limelight.
Unfortunately, he made a mistake and caused quite a halt,
However it is all well as he perfectly portrayed the dark side behind every teenager’s life,
Where everyone makes mistakes and eventually learn to overcome their fears and stand back up…
My friend, it’s alright, let it go,
It’s not the quality of your playing we seek,
It’s your nerves to stand out from the rest that counts =)

Soon we entered the third section of the piece, where everyone jumped back up and grooved to the tune of the trombones,
You guys really whipped up to a frenzy and were continually subjected to derision…
It was as though you guys were all on Ecstacy… lol…
You guys not just entertained yourselves, but indeed you all made room for laughter in that hollow hall.
Cheers to you guys for your enthusiasm!
Moreover, you guys portrayed the sweet thing about life as a teenager,
Where we got to chill out together and just be a kid,
Doing crazy, ridiculous stuff all for the sake of enjoying life…
Frankly speaking, I really felt the energy from you guys,
And all I wanted was to join in the fun with you all…too bad…sigh
We ended the show with a full jazz ensemble blast to the audience and what a crowd reaction it was…
Everyone were on their feet ( figuratively ) to cheer us on,
And this time, the applause was more than just satisfactory,
It was triumphantly gratifying!
It was definitely a heart-stopping moment to be remembered for years to come…
For me it would always remain a perpetual memory…
Thanks to cutting-edge technology, we have a video recording by Sony Cybershot =.=’ LAME !
“ Encore! Encore! “ they shouted,
Obviously they enjoyed our show, a lot.

SUCCESS !!

However this is just a milestone of what’s coming ahead of us in the future,
Our future … STBB 2009

Therefore, I urge you band of brothers,
To merge as one body, mind and soul,
Together we go and win the hearts of others!

Together we bear the shame
Together we share the fame

To all our seniors, all the best in the exams and
Cheers from your successors.
Thank you!
Adios amigo

上面写道:“If you want to become rich, please flash (flush) the water.”。

Satu Lagi!! Five Stars!! Encore!!
